Trip up Mt. Hopkins to the Whipple Observatory

The Fred Lawrence Observatory on Mt. Hopkins (in the background) is the largest field installation of the Smithsonian Astrological Observatory outside of their main site in Cambridge, MA.

Closer view of the largest telescope housing. Bill and cousin Chuck Willie discussing high level astrological stuff.

Lunch spot

View of Green Valley and nearby copper mines.

We rode the bus ten miles up the mountain on this windy road, some of it unpaved, but gorgeous views all the way up.
View of Mexico in the background.

One set of telescopes on the way to the top.

MMT telescope on top of the mountain--8550 ft elevation.

Summer Gatherings with Friends

Great to have Pam and Tom back for a week--for Mel and Deanna's 50th Anniversary.

Beer Brats and homemade ice cream with neighbors and friends.

Cashmere Friends

Labor Day at Club Roberts

Grandpa took the grandkids crabbing and fishing in the boat.

Elsa and Evan serious about building boats.

 Everyone gets in the act.

First time out on their own kayaks. Caught them right before they jetted of to the rope swing (in the trees across the lagoon).

We always get treated to Adam's clam boil, otherwise named by Elsa, "the red bag dinner".

Nephew David, Amie and their three darling children Josh, Emma and Micah joined us one day for fun on the beach.

Micah must have been eating or sleeping.

Almost Annual Family Vacation........Seaside, OR

G & G took the grandkids for a ride on the carousel, the bumper cars, and a trip to the Aquarium.  And don't forget ice cream!

Having fun in the surf.

Fort Stevens, WWII reenactment.

Peter Iredale Shipwreck.  Some of it has disappeared in the last 47 years since I've seen it.

These "surf bikes" were a lot of fun. We also rented a pedal surrey.

We Love Summer with the Family

Getting ready to go crabbing on opening day.

Watch out crab, here we come!

Evan rescued the baseball from under the deck.  Brave kid.

Our home run balls are a little tricky to retrieve.

Grandpa cleaning the crab.  Adam and Evan had their turn at cleaning, too.

We all got our limits. This is only the first batch.

 Fisher boy, Nathan.

Another fun summer day with the Ackersons, too.

Can you guess what's going on here?  Of course, it's a human car wash.  We like indoor games, too.
